Litigation of Vaginal Mesh Lawsuits Expected To Go Full Steam in 2014
While the there may have been positive developments last year in the litigation of vaginal mesh lawsuits, the year 2014 may see vaginal mesh trials going full steam. In the US District Court of West Virginia alone, trials have already been lined up every month for the first half of the year.
Unlike last year where it was only C.R. Bard who was named defendant in three bellwether cases, this time around a total of four mesh manufacturers will appear before Judge Joseph Goodwin.
The defendants, with the trial dates, are the following: C.R. Bard (January 10, 2014), Ethicon Inc. (February 10, 2014), Boston Scientific (March 10, 2014), and American Medical Systems (April 07, 2014).
The litigation of these claims is very significant because the defendants are considered key players in this particular medical device industry. It has been estimated that these four companies account for nearly 50,000 of all vaginal mesh lawsuits filed across the country.
The results of these trials will have very crucial implications on all vaginal mesh lawsuits. Legal observers believe that should these cases be ruled in favor of the plaintiffs, settlement may be pursued by the defendants.
