Opening Statements in Gynecare Vaginal Mesh Trial Expected To Begin Tomorrow, Rottenstein Law Group Reports
Opening statements are on course to begin tomorrow in the first trial of one of the hundreds of cases included in a Gynecare vaginal mesh mass tort in New Jersey Superior Court, the Rottenstein Law Group reports.
Jury selection began January 7 in a case alleging that a vaginal mesh product called Gynecare Prolift caused 47-year-old Linda Gross to suffer debilitating pain and undergo 18 subsequent operations, according to Bloomberg. (Gross v. Gynecare Inc. Atl-L-6966-10, Superior Court of Atlantic County, New Jersey (Atlantic City)). The case is the first of the 1,800 Gynecare lawsuits pending in New Jersey Superior Court to go to trial, Bloomberg reports.
As of Wednesday afternoon, jury selection was on course to finish on time, allowing the parties to begin delivering their opening statements at 9 a.m. on Jan. 10, staff members in Presiding Judge Carol Higbee’s chambers reported in a telephone interview with the Rottenstein Law Group.
